Australia-EU Free Trade Agreement: What It Means for Your Supply Chain

AU and EU Free Trade Agreement

After eight years of negotiations, the Australian Government has finally secured an important Free Trade Agreement with the European Union. The EU is the world’s second-largest economy, with over 450 million people, making the deal a landmark for Australian trade.

The new agreement is expected to improve the transport and logistics sector in Australia, increasing the flow of international imports whilst boosting the country’s export capacity and lowering the costs of many goods imported and exported between Australia and Europe.

More Affordable Machinery and Equipment

As mentioned in the government statement by Senator Don Farrell, the Minister for Trade and Tourism, “Farmers and businesses will also benefit from cheaper motor vehicles and machinery” thanks to the removal of most Australian tariffs on imports from the EU. This means that imported high-quality European-produced machinery and equipment will be more cost-effective for Australian businesses.

Specialised Logistics for Project Cargo and Heavy Machinery

With the removal of tariffs on EU machinery, we expect to see an influx in demand to import heavy equipment into the Australian market. Bullocks are experts at importing heavy machinery. Whether you are importing a new fleet of specialised vehicles, heavy machinery or specialised European-made mining equipment, our team handles the entire process, ensuring your high-value assets are handled with the specialised care they require.

A Much-Needed Boost for Australian Agricultural Exporters

The new FTA is a massive boost for Australian farmers and producers. The FTA brings the elimination of almost all European Union tariffs on agricultural products, meaning EU citizens can enjoy all of the amazing produce Australia has on offer, from our wines, fruit and vegetables to our honey, dairy and seafood products. For our meat farmers, the agreement has an expanded tariff rate quota volume on meat products, including beef and lamb.

This is also beneficial for Australian consumers, opening the door for cheaper European products, hopefully making popular EU products such as spirits, biscuits, chocolate and pasta cheaper at the checkout.

For businesses importing and exporting Australian and European products, this means a reduced cost on tariffs, saving you money, and allowing you to be more competitive.
